WARDED TO PHINEAS TWILFITT.
I do not particularly wish to talk about it in any more detail than to acknowledge it but I am sorry for being cross with you the last few days. As I said before, I would rather wait until we are safe to quarrel about things which will not matter if we do not make it to safety and forgive me for my pessimism, but it does not seem as though that is particularly likely. If we have only a few months or weeks or days before something else happens, I would rather spend it swallowing my pride and making the most of it than arguing over something out of my control either way.

WARDED TO ANN MARCHBANKS.
In your novels, does the romantic lead ever have a best friend who is, to put it plainly, a cow? I do not think my mind should even be on this at the moment, but Phineas' cow of a friend has made it very difficult not to think about it. He told Hornby about us and I am finding it very difficult after what she did to Delmi to give her any benefit of the doubt regardless of whether or not she is dating a Muggle-born. As much as I want to trust Phineas, I think he may be a bit naive in that respect. Hornby is a dreadful person, from what I can tell, but we might die here and the last thing I want to do is be arguing with him if that happens. And I do not have the time to think about this between all there is to be done at the camp.

I have to ask one more thing, though. You would never threaten him, would you?

WARD TO FIDELMIA DUNSTAN AND ANN MARCHBANKS.
Once upon a time, there was a young man named Prosper who considered himself extremely patriotic. He was a fair duelist and well-liked by his peers. Ever since he was a boy, he had wanted to become a soldier and fight as his grandfather and father had done. It was a priority he considered the most important of all and was going to stop at nothing to one day defend and protect his country. It was a goal to which he aspired without complication until his seventh year when everything changed.

WARDED TO PHINEAS TWILFITT.
For all of the people who have said it ought not matter who one loves or for what reason so long as they truly love them, it makes me wonder if they could ever understand or accept us. In theory, it seems as though they could, but I know the circumstances have to do with blood and not the same circumstances as ours and most likely they would change their minds. It is still a somewhat encouraging thought to consider while digging trenches.

As bothersome as the commotion has been and as little as I care for what Charmaine and Tiberius do so long as they are alive, British and at least relatively happy, it has been a bit of a relief to have something to consider aside from your team's report or whether or not you, my sister or any of my friends will be hurt if the Germans decide to attack us. Ann and Delmi have also asked me to write a portion of a romantic story for them as well, which will be another welcomed distraction once I find a spare moment to do so.

I know this is a rather odd question and you do not have to answer if you would rather not but have you ever thought of our love as one that defied all odds? Even odds of war?

I may be alone in thinking so, but it has been a long few days since leaving Hogwarts. Though having use of the journals from home is certainly more convenient than owling whenever I'd like to speak to some one. Now that I am home, I am beginning to think I should have taken Apparation lessons. Have you been well? It is very strange not having you nearby.

I understand I've been 'asleep' for the entire first half of June. What a lot I must have missed. My NEWTs, for one, though I am not terribly distraught about that.

I know this was announced earlier this week and there have been sign-up sheets in the Common Rooms, but in case anyone wanted to sign up last minute for the chess tournament this evening, we will be setting things up soon and need all the names. Any spectators who would like to attend are, of course, more than welcome.

It may seem like an odd time for 'games', but as with the upcoming Hogsmeade trip, I think that we could all use a pleasant distraction from certain goings on and in my opinion, there are few better distractions than a sporting game of chess. Additionally, there will be a sizeable group of us and Professor Euler will be there to oversee us. Also, I have volunteered Ciceron to assist me in escorting any students who do not have anyone to walk with back to their Houses after, so there is no excuse to miss it.

WARDED TO SEVENTH YEARS, PHINEAS TWILFITT AND DAGMAR WIGWORTHY.
I have not found a very good time to bring this up and I suppose now is not necessarily the best but I sent my letter to the War Office several says ago and returned the letter they sent shortly afterwards. I have settled on code-cracking.

I am pleased to hear you are a bit less chirpy today. I am sorry that something so dreadful happened on your birthday. Perhaps I will find something in Hogsmeade for you to make up for it this weekend.

WARDED TO PROFESSOR VIRIDIAN.
I apologise in advance for taking up your time with this, sir, as I am sure you are extremely busy. Several of us boys who are rather dreadful at Duelling have been practising with Professor Flitwick. I believe it has helped, though I am specifically concerned with rumours that the recent attacks have something to do with the students' blood statuses. As a Muggle-born, if I am more likely to be targeted by whomever or whatever is behind this, I would like to be sure that I have the proper skills with which to defend myself in such a situation. As much as I have come to terms with my being abysmal at Duelling, I do not wish for my sister to have to cope with the loss of a brother, sir. While my being too tall to enlist in Active Duty has lessened my original concerns, recent events have caused me to reconsider my complacency.

Would it be possible, sir, to receive some assistance in practising defensive spells? I understand if the answer is no, as I am sure there are far more important matters to which you must attend and I apologise if it is selfish of me to make such a request.

WARDED TO DAGMAR WIGWORTHY.
Phineas informed me last night that after speaking to Augusta Prewett, he learned that one of the students hurt was a Muggle-born and the other had a Muggle-born parent. He is concerned that such a thing may not be coincidental. As Muggle-borns, I know that we are at greater risk of facing the prejudices of certain peers, but I cannot imagine that some one is intentionally targeting those like us or with parents like us. I do not quite know what to make of it, though. I do think it is possible for Grindelwald to have spies within Hogwarts. I know that he has bombed the school in the past and certainly seems to dislike us, but if he had spies, would they not do something far more catastrophic than hurting a couple of young students?

That said, I would rather err on the side of caution. Please do not go anywhere alone.

WARDED TO SEVENTH YEAR MUGGLE TOLERANCE STUDENTS.
Am I the only one among us who is uncomfortable at the idea of learning Obliviation? I know that the intention is to use it on Muggles, but I cannot see myself doing such a thing. I cannot imagine being on their end of things, kept completely in the dark. I suppose they do not know any better and that is the point entirely, but I still do not like the idea. And considering how dreadful I am at wand-work, I am afraid that anyone's memory I try to alter will turn out horribly wrong. I do hope that we will not have to practise on anything that could be damaged by poor spell-work.

I am also thinking of asking Professor Egg if I might abstain from the lesson. Even if I were in a position in which Obliviation was necessary, I would not feel confident enough in my abilities to perform it well enough.

I know that we decided not to talk about this any more and we do not have to after this. In fact, you do not have to say anything at all if you would rather not. I simply wanted you to know that I think I understand, and perhaps you are not entirely alone.
